Private · We Drive · Dogs Welcome
Rutherford and Oakville are the beating heart of Napa Cabernet — a mid-valley stretch of legendary estates along Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail. Our private Rutherford & Oakville dog friendly wine tours bring your dog into the middle of it all, with a driver handling every mile.
This is where some of Napa's most celebrated reds are grown, and several of these estates welcome dogs on their grounds. We book the reservations, thread the two towns together into one seamless day, and keep your pup comfortable with shade and water between tastings.
Mid-valley is where a dog most benefits from having a driver. The estates here sit off Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail with driveways that are pretty but not particularly walkable, so most visitors spend a lot of the day getting in and out of a car. On our tours the vehicle is your dog's cool, quiet base between visits — blanket, water, and a shaded window — and each tasting is set up outdoors where your pup can settle at your feet. Between the two towns we can build in a stop at Rutherford's small roadside pull-offs to stretch legs, and lunch is almost always on a lawn rather than in a busy tasting bar. Cabernet country done right for a dog looks like long outdoor pours and short transfers, and that's exactly the shape of the day.
A realistic six-hour flow for two adults and a medium dog, starting from a Napa hotel. Times move around your reservations and how much energy your pup still has by mid-afternoon.
10:30 am
Vehicle already cool, water bowls out, clean blanket down. Quick intro with your dog, then a straight 20-minute run up Highway 29 into Oakville — one of the shortest drives you'll do all day.
11:00 am
We start on the Oakville side with a seated outdoor tasting at a Cab-focused estate that genuinely welcomes dogs. One flight, mostly reds, in shade — an easy on-ramp for the day.
12:30 pm
Either a picnic lunch on a dog-welcoming estate lawn (we bring or arrange the food) or a short drive to a Rutherford patio. This is the long, unhurried middle of the day — you eat, your dog naps.
2:00 pm
Ten minutes north into Rutherford for a bigger, more serious pour — think reserve Cabernet on a shaded terrace with a view over the valley floor. Room for your dog to settle beside the table on a cool tile floor or grass.
3:45 pm
If everyone (dog included) still has energy, we finish with a smaller pour off the Silverado Trail on the way back south. Otherwise we head straight back to your hotel — plenty of dogs are ready for a proper nap after two Cab-heavy tastings, and that's the right call.
A working olive-oil and wine estate on the Rutherford Bench with wide lawns, terraces, and one of the more genuinely relaxed outdoor tastings in the mid-valley. A natural fit for a party with a dog who prefers grass over gravel.
Winery guide →The mission-style landmark on Highway 29 in Oakville — huge courtyard, wide arches, and shaded outdoor seating that generally works well for a leashed dog. A cornerstone of any Cabernet-country day and a good introduction to the region for first-time visitors.
Winery guide →A biodynamic, low-key Rutherford estate with a red barn, hammocks strung between trees, and a garden lunch vibe that's almost the opposite of the polished-marble tasting rooms nearby. Dogs and kids both tend to breathe easier here.
Winery guide →We’re still adding Rutherford & Oakville estates to our public list, but we know the pet-welcoming tasting rooms in the area well. Call us at (707) 315-5742 and we’ll build the right dog-friendly day for you.
A private vehicle picks you and your dog up and handles every mile, so nobody has to skip a pour. Rutherford & Oakville is roughly 20–25 minutes from our Napa base.
We confirm each tasting in advance, time the day around your pace, and only book rooms that genuinely welcome dogs.
Water bowls, shade breaks, and pup-friendly patios are built into the plan from the start.
